Habitat for Humanity is known throughout the world for its unique "partnership housing" model that founder Millard Fuller envisioned - where volunteers work alongside the families who will own the completed homes to make a lasting change in their communities. Cayuga County Habitat for Humanity has adapted the model to not only build new houses in Cayuga County, but to rehabilitate and revitalize the existing housing stock of Auburn and the surrounding area.

Cayuga County Habitat for Humanity acquires land and buildings from the City of Auburn and from generous individual donors in Cayuga County. Professional architects and engineers then design our buildings, not only conforming to the city code, but also to fit in with the neigborhood they are located in. Once this is complete, our volunteers and partner families begin work on all aspects of construction.

    33 Wadsworth Street

    33 Wadsworth Street
Work began in late 2006 on our 11th project located at 33 Wadsworth Street in Auburn, NY. This property was donated to us by the estate of Robert Ross, and includes not only the house at 33 Wadsworth, but also an additional parcel of empty land at 37 Wadsworth.

The house is located on a dead-end street, near the Owasco lake outlet. The house itself was in relatively good condition, and work progressed quickly on cleanout and demolition of the areas that are to be rehabbed. The plan for this house included: All new windows, complete exterior painting and siding repairs, structural repairs to the foundation and several add-on rooms. A complete kitchen overhaul, and many other smaller projects.

The family moved in to this home in January 2010 and are enjoying it immensely.

    Weedsport-Sennett 2007

This home was donated to us by the Smithler Family in 2006 and completed in December of 2007.  In addition to being a private residence this building had also served as a post office in years past.  The entire interior was gutted and new floor plan laid out.  The foundation required extensive repairs and the home had to be jacked up and leveled.  You can see this home at the intersection of Turnpike Rd & Weedsport-Sennett Rd (next to the old Sennett Fire Department).
